Student Organizations
The Allen School has many Affiliated Student Organizations. We have Social, Diversity & Access, Career & Industry, and Technical Student Organizations that our undergraduate population is encouraged to participate in, offering a wide range of programming.
Social Allen School Student Organizations operate in service of the Allen School undergraduate student community. Their main functions are to engage the student body socially, provide opportunities to develop community, and enhance the general student sense of belonging within the school.
Association for Computing Education (ACE)
Association for Computing Education (ACE) focuses on building a community for students interested in the field of computing education. We provide resources and events to help students connect with TA opportunities, academia, and other computing education communities in the University of Washington.
Computing Community (COM²)
Computing Community (COM²) at the University of Washington is a UW RSO dedicated to building community in the CSE department, and we are the largest student-led organization at the Paul G. Allen School of Computer Science & Engineering. COM² at the Allen School aims to bring the motivation and spirit of this organization to our school campus through career and academic support, mentorship, and community-building initiatives.
Student Advisory Council (SAC)
he Student Advisory Council (SAC) is a student organization dedicated to amplifying voices across the Allen School to create long-term change. We are passionate about improving the Allen School experience through collecting student feedback, producing reports, hosting events, leading initiatives, and facilitating conversations between students, faculty, and industry. Diversity & Access Student Organizations
Diversity & Access Allen School Student Organizations operate in service of the Diversity & Access Team mission, operating within the scope of D&A Team programming. Their main functions are to advocate for affinity-focused needs within the Allen School, build community for subgroup populations within their affinity focus, and enhance their affinity population’s experience within the school.
Ability
Ability works to (1) provide a strong community for students with disabilities to get support from one another and allies, and (2) educate the broader community about disability and the importance of accessibility in our world. We hold events like allyship training, accessibility research nights, info sessions on resources for students with disabilities, web accessibility workshops, disability-informed career/recruiting events with companies like Uber and Oracle, and more!
GEN1
GEN1 at the University of Washington aims to celebrate and support the Allen School’s vibrant and diverse first-generation community by providing resources and a community to ensure academic, professional, and personal success.
Minorities in Tech
Minorities in Tech’s mission is to act as a forum to build and foster an inclusive, multicultural environment for underrepresented minority (URM) students in CSE and allies. Through various events and collaborative efforts, we aim to create a supportive ecosystem that embraces diversity, promotes equity, and empowers every member of the MiT community!
Q++
Q++ is a student organization that aims to build and support the LGBTQ+ community in the Allen School through community engagement and representation. We promote community building through hosting events and providing safe spaces for students. By supporting those with diverse gender and sexual identities and their allies, we hope to foster a sense of inclusivity, openness, and acceptance throughout the Allen School. Women in Computing (WiC)
Women in Computing (WiC) at the University of Washington is a group of students in the Paul G. Allen School (of all genders and orientations) dedicated to cultivating a strong, supportive community of women within the Allen School. We strive to help members succeed academically, socially and professionally, and we believe in demonstrating the importance and necessity of diversity in computing.
Career & Industry Student Organizations
Career & Industry Allen School Student Organizations exist to connect students to the professional field of computer science and engineering. Their main functions are to prepare students for post-collegiate life, develop career-related programming and support, and work in conjunction with the Allen School Industry Affiliates Program. The career & industry partners these groups are affiliated with are expected to connect with our programming.
CSEED
Our mission is to inspire engineering students @ UW to be innovators. We do this through cool programs and events, like chatting with startup founders + student builders and hands-on experiences in Buildspace and BuildHER, where our members can dive in, find community, learn, and bring their passion projects to life. We’re all about fostering a culture of innovation and purpose, so students can approach their engineering journey with passion, creativity, and a fresh perspective. less talk, more action! 🙂
DubHacks
DubHacks hosts the largest hackathon in the PNW where students work on projects they are most passionate about, by receiving support from industry professional mentors and interacting with our corporate sponsors. DubHacks Next is our startup incubator where student entrepreneurs spend 16 weeks learning about VC funding, developing their ideas, and pitching to VC firms.
Software Engineering Career Club (SWECC)
Our mission is to support and empower those interested in pursuing a career in software engineering. We offer a wide range of activities and resources, including networking events, mentorship programs, resume reviews, and interview prep. Join SWECC to jumpstart your software engineering career!
Technical Student Organizations
Technical Allen School Student Organizations function to work on computer science and engineering-focused projects and programs. Their main functions are to host project-based programs directly related to computer science and/or engineering, and to connect Allen School students with opportunities to explore technical aspects of experiential learning.
Algorithmic Trading Club
The Algorithmic Trading Club empowers students to explore the exciting world of quantitative finance and algorithmic trading. Through weekly meetings, hands-on competitions, and a quarterly trading challenge, members gain practical experience in developing and optimizing trading algorithms. Our club fosters a strong connection between computer science and finance, equipping students with essential skills for their future careers.
CESA (Computing for Environmental and Social Advocacy)
Focused on harnessing computer science to solve societal problems, we are a multidisciplinary organization on a mission to use technology for the global good. Join us as we tackle social injustice, environmental pollution, unethical software, and more. Computer science holds great promise to solve the world’s pressing issues. Husky Coding Project
To create a tech internship-like environment that promotes the growth and development of our club members. We provide team-based programming project experience and encourage peer-to-peer learning to provide the next generation of programmers & designers with the tools and experience to succeed in future tech careers.
I2 (Interactive Intelligence)
Interactive Intelligence aims to provide both technical and non-technical approaches to learning about ML, AI, Neuroscience and Ethics. In addition, we host guest speakers from the fields of Neurotechnology, AI ethics, philosophy, security, and much more. Our main offering is a 10-week crash course that will teach you the basics of NeuroAI in a basic or advanced format that is suited to your skill level. We provide a community that promotes intellectual inquiry, pedagogical opportunities, and most importantly lots of fun!
Project IF (Indoor Farming)
Project IF is a RSO focused on developing a community of members interested about the applications of sustainable agriculture and technology! All majors are welcomed to learn more about what we do and how your knowledge can help us continuously innovate, educate, and build improvements towards a sustainable future.
Synaptech
Synaptech is UW’s neurotechnology club! Come join us in our quarterly projects, which range from biometric lie detectors, music generation from EEG recordings, or eye-controlled Arduino cars. We are completely beginner friendly and offer weekly meetings to learn new skills, like machine learning or neuroanatomy!
UWashington Formula Motorsports
UWashington Formula Motorsports is a registered student-led organization that has over 35 years of engineering excellence; We design, build, and race a new electric vehicle every year for the FSAE EV competition.
XRA (Extended Reality Association)
XRA is a multidisciplinary community of scholars at UW who enjoy VR, AR, and MR while working to increase interest in and accessibility to these technologies across campus.
